Hi. I’m Marie-Hélène. I love discovering creative people in my province of New Brunswick and sharing their inspiring stories through CreatedHere. I juggle working from home and parenting my three small children, while exploring my own creative side. Join me in discovering NB’s creative community!
CreatedHere is a website, directory and print magazine all about local creatives, from those who make art and fine craft to photography and dance. This project is focused on growing community of people who love beautiful things made with care and who are passionate about supporting our local makers. CreatedHere is where creative meets local.
The idea for CreatedHere came to me late one night after going to a craft fair in Fredericton in November, 2013. I had reconnected with an old friend who is now a glass artist, and I really enjoyed talking to him about how he got to where he was. It occurred to me that I wouldn’t know his story if I hadn’t happened to be at that craft fair. I am a creative person who loves this sort of thing, but with three little ones I don’t always get out to events like these. So I searched the Internet to see if there was anywhere I could easily discover artists in the area without going anywhere. I couldn’t find what I was picturing, so I thought why don’t I start something? I wanted to create an online space where people could discover N.B. artists, and where artists could get some extra exposure. Over the following months CreatedHere took shape and the website was launched in September, 2014.
I have experienced a huge amount of support from the arts community as I have explored this project. The Pond-Deshpande Centre generously awarded me funding early on which allowed me to get my website off the ground. I was also privileged to take part in the founding cohort of the ArtsLinkNB Catapult Arts+Culture Accelerator program where I learned all about launching a creative business.
Out of the accelerator came the pilot issue of CreatedHere magazine, and it kept going from there! Available issues are can be found in a number of select locations and online (see Shop).
This project is an extension of my creativity and my appreciation for those who spend their time creating. I am passionate about spreading the word about the artists in my province, and very lucky to get to meet such interesting and inspiring people!
